Laser Templating
Laser templating is a modern, highly accurate method used to measure and create digital templates for worktops, countertops, and other surfaces prior to fabrication. It replaces traditional physical templates made from hardboard or plastic.
Laser templating uses a laser measuring device, often mounted on a tripod, to capture precise digital dimensions of the area where the worktop will be installed. The measurements are converted into CAD files, which are then used to guide CNC machines in cutting the final surface material (like Corian®, quartz, granite, etc.).
High Precision
Laser systems can measure within fractions of a millimeter, resulting in extremely accurate cuts and perfect fitment—even in irregular or curved spaces.
Speed and Efficiency
A full kitchen can often be templated in under an hour, reducing on-site time and speeding up the fabrication process.
Digital Integration
The digital template can be instantly sent to fabrication tools (like CNC routers), minimizing errors from manual handling or transcription.
Less Disruption
There’s no need for physical hardboard templates, so it’s cleaner and less invasive for the customer.
Captures Walls, Sockets, Fixtures
Advanced systems can detect wall irregularities, angles, and locations of sockets, sinks, and hobs for precise cutouts.
3D Capability
Some systems capture heights and vertical dimensions too—helpful for splashbacks or cladding as well.
